GardaWorld Update April 2

Good afternoon GardaWorld YYC workers,

This past week and Drop-in this coming week

It was a great few days of connecting with GardaWorld workers in the airport this past week. We’ll be back this coming week and you can expect to see Unifor in the airport from Monday to Friday connecting with you and your co-workers. In addition, we have scheduled another drop-in meeting on Wednesday April 6. Of course, if you would like to meet in-person outside of Wednesday at a time that works better for you, just let us know.

Wednesday April 6 Drop-in Meeting

Location: Calgary Airport Marriott In-Terminal Airport

Crocus Room (Mezzanine Level) DIFFERENT ROOM THAN USUAL

Weds., April 6: 10:00-20:00 (10 a.m. – 8 p.m.)

CIRB Application Update

GardaWorld has now provided a full employee list with supporting documentation. We are working through the list to ensure it reflects the workplace and there are no errors or omissions. We will keep you posted on this process.

We also want to remind everyone of the upcoming deadlines set out by the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). A party could respond earlier but this the maximum timeline. We do anticipate a vote sometime after Monday April 18 under these deadlines.

COMPLETED Weds. March 30 – Deadline for Employer to provide employee list of eligible voters

Mon. April 4 – Deadline for Employer and CLAC to provide response to the Unifor application

Mon. April 11 – Deadline for Unifor to respond to both the Employer and CLAC’s responses

Weds. April 13 – Deadline for CIRB Industrial Relations Officer to provide a Letter of Understanding to the parties regarding all positions.

Over 500 Workers Leave CLAC and join Unifor

You're not alone in the desire to seek better representation with Unifor!

Yesterday, April 1, workers at Chatham Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) in Ontario voted to leave CLAC and join Unifor.

Voting took place electronically over a 48 hour period from March 30 to April 1, 2022. A majority of the 519 eligible workers voted in favour of joining Unifor.

Phone Calls

We have been continuing to reach out to GardaWorld workers by phone to make sure everyone has the opportunity to ask their questions and get answers. This has been going very well and workers are excited to get the opportunity to vote to join Unifor! We’ll be continuing these outreach efforts moving forward.

CLAC’s communications

We have become aware CLAC is attempting to manufacture ill will amongst workers by asserting Unifor has created division in the workplace. It’s unfortunate but not surprising CLAC would act in this fashion. This is because they do not see themselves as part of the union with you, they believe they exist outside the workplace and that their mission is to make peace in the workplace instead of fighting for their members.

We want to assure you that whether a member supports Unifor or not, that we respect their opinion and their right to it. Should we be successful, we will fight for all GardaWorld workers and strive to unite the membership, not divide you. Our commitment is to be here for you and you co-workers, not GardaWorld or CATSA.

Union Cards and Contact Information

Workers can still sign cards to join Unifor to show support for the campaign.

Here’s the electronic union card link: https://join.unifor.org/gardacard

If you have a co-worker who is not getting emails and would like to, they can simply provide contact here. It is important we are able to communicate with as many workers as possible in the lead up to a vote: https://join.unifor.org/gardaworld
