Tomorrow is an important day.

You will have the opportunity to vote on whether you want Unifor Canada to represent you at GFX Solutions Inc. in Whitby.

Over the course of this campaign, you have talked with your co-workers, shared your concerns, stood together and shown the courage to demand a stronger voice in your workplace.

As you prepare to vote, we want to make sure you have the facts.

Myth #1: "A Union Will Cost Me Money"

The truth: Union dues are an investment in your collective strength.

Unifor dues are 1.35% of regular wages. Bonuses and shift premiums are not included. Under Unifor's current Constitution, dues are not mandatory for a newly organised bargaining unit until a first collective agreement is ratified.

Dues help provide access to bargaining support, legal resources, health and safety expertise, education, representation and other services that strengthen workers' ability to stand together.

Myth #2: "A Union Will Take Away My Voice"

The truth: You are the union.

Unifor is not a third party that comes into your workplace and makes decisions for you.

The members make the decisions.

GFX workers will have the opportunity to elect their bargaining committee and identify the issues that matter most to them. You will have a voice in determining what you want to negotiate.

Myth #3: "Unifor Can't Guarantee a Wage Increase"

The truth: We have never promised you a guaranteed result.

No responsible union can guarantee what an employer will agree to before negotiations begin.

What we can promise is that we will work with you to fight for improvements to your wages, benefits, job security, health and safety and working conditions.

The difference is that you will no longer have to negotiate individually.

You will negotiate together.

Myth #4: "Nothing Will Change"

The truth: The relationship changes when workers have a collective voice.

With Unifor, you will have the right to negotiate a legally binding collective agreement that establishes the terms and conditions of your employment.

That agreement can address the issues that matter to you — wages, benefits, seniority, job security, scheduling, health and safety, holidays, vacations, fair treatment, grievance procedures and more.

And when a tentative agreement is reached, you will have the opportunity to vote on it.

Myth #5: "The Union Will Control Everything"

The truth: You and your co-workers will have a democratic voice.

Unifor belongs to its members.

You elect your representatives. You participate in meetings. You help determine your priorities. And you vote on your collective agreement.

The union is not something separate from the workers. The union is the workers standing together.

Myth #6: "You Should Be Afraid of Voting Yes"

The truth: You have a legal right to make your own choice.

Your vote is conducted by secret ballot. Your employer will not know how you voted.

You should vote based on what you believe is best for you, your family and your future at GFX.

And remember everything that brought you to this point.

You have already shown tremendous courage by standing together.

Why Vote YES for Unifor?

A stronger voice.
Have a collective voice in the workplace instead of facing workplace issues alone.

A seat at the bargaining table.
Workers will have representatives who negotiate with the Company on your behalf.

A legally binding collective agreement.
The terms and conditions you negotiate will be put into a collective agreement that both sides are required to follow.

A fair process.
A grievance procedure can provide workers with a way to challenge unfair treatment or violations of the collective agreement.

Stronger protection.
Unifor brings experienced representatives, legal resources, health and safety expertise and the strength of more than 320,000 members across Canada.

A better future.
The goal is not simply to change things for tomorrow. It is to build a stronger workplace for you and the workers who come after you.

You Have Already Done the Hard Part
