It's Official - Your Bargaining Unit is Certified!

On April 26, 2024 the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) issued certification for your new bargaining unit.

Next Steps

Many of you have been asking about the next steps in this process. In the coming days, you will be designated as a local within our union and assigned a national representative.

Negotiating Committee Nominations & Elections

There will be an election to choose your bargaining committee. Training will be made available to those elected. Any time lost from work will be compensated. Your bargaining committee will work with your local union and National Representative to reach your first collective agreement.

Stay Tuned for more details about Bargaining Committee Elections and Nominations.

Membership Meeting

We will hold a membership meeting following the election of your bargaining committee. As soon as we confirm the dates and timing, we will send you details.

Freeze Provision

Until your first collective agreement is ratified the "freeze provision" protects your wages, benefits and other terms and conditions of employment. This provision fosters stability and consistency in the workplace during negotiations, preventing abrupt alterations or disruptions to your working conditions.

The freeze provision is an important aspect of the collective bargaining process, as it helps balance the interests of employers and employees. It allows negotiations to take place in good faith without the risk of unilateral changes to employment terms by either party. Ultimately, the goal of the freeze provision is to facilitate constructive negotiations and reach a mutually acceptable agreement that meets the needs of both parties involved.

For now, management is expected to operate on a "business as usual" basis regarding their interactions with employees. If you have an issue with any management decision that you feel is unfair, please contact the undersigned, and we will assess what can be done to remedy this.

We look forward to establishing a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship with the Company.

As we move through the next couple of weeks, you will likely have questions, and we will be happy to answer those for you. Please feel free to reach out to your Unifor representatives.
