Ready to Get Started?
Joining Unifor and forming a union is a simple yet powerful step towards securing a better future for yourself and your colleagues. Take action today and start building a brighter tomorrow for Meridian Lightweight Technologies workers!

Here’s how the process of joining a union works:
Step 1. Engage co-workers and grow support
Educate workers on what a union can do for them. Encourage them to show their support by filling in their information on this website. This is also the time to "map" your workplace. How many employees? What are the departments? Who are your union supporters/anti-union workers? Once a strong support level is reached, we can move forward with a campaign.
Step 2. Sign your card
This is not a legally binding contract. Workers have to sign a union card in order to join a union. In Ontario, 40%+ cards need to be signed by employees in order to apply to the Labour Board. The employer never knows you’ve signed a card and the process is 100% confidential.
Step 3. Hold a vote
Workers vote by secret online ballot to approve the union drive. A simple majority of 50% plus one is needed to win the vote and certify the union. This vote is strictly confidential and conducted by the board. Unifor and your employer will never know how you voted.
Step 4. Bargain your first contract
After a successful vote, workers can start the process of bargaining your first contract with management. The negotiations will focus on the priorities that matter to you and will be enforced in a legally-binding collective agreement.
No one pays union dues until after the contract is negotiated and voted on by workers. Union Dues are 1.35% ($1.35 for every $100 earned) of your gross monthly income, whether you work part-time or full-time. Tips, bonuses and shift premiums are not included in this calculation and you do not pay dues when you are off on WSIB, leave of absence, maternity or parental leave, or sick leave.
