The Ministry of Labour just confirmed what many of you have been saying for months:
Roy Thomson and Massey Hall are failing to meet basic obligations to workers.

On July 10, 2025, the Ontario Ministry of Labour issued Order #8928-ORD001 to Roy Thomson Hall after finding that the employer had failed to review its harassment policy since 2022, in violation of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act.

During their visit, the Ministry found:

  • The workplace harassment policy hasn’t been updated since 2022
  • Many workers aren’t trained, even when roles or risks change
  • Staff aren’t being provided cold-weather gear when needed

The Ministry was also investigating the following concerns:

  • Harassment investigations aren’t happening
  • Health and safety recommendations from your Joint Committee are being ignored
  • Security protocols are not sufficient when guests become violent

That’s not just frustrating—it’s unacceptable.
This is exactly why workers are signing Unifor cards.

With a union, you gain the power to negotiate for what’s missing and protect what’s working through a collective agreement.

Need proof that organizing works?

Unifor members at the CN Tower just ratified a strong new contract after standing together through a two-week lockout. They won:

  • Immediate wage increases

  • Better scheduling

  • Job protections that didn’t exist before

The new three-year collective agreement includes significant wage improvements. Non-gratuity earners will receive annual increases of 4.25%, while gratuity earners will see raises of 4% in the first year, followed by 2.5% in each of the next two years.

The following wage adjustments will be applied before the general increases: Le Café Cooks will receive a $1.00 per hour raise, and Utility Attendants will receive $0.50 more per hour.

The agreement also enhances benefits across health, dental, and vision care, increases coverage for hearing aids and safety shoes, and reduces the wait time for part-time employee benefits from two years to one. Other key gains include improvements to the gratuity policy, annual retirement allowances, a commitment to stabilize hours of operation, and the hiring of a third-party consultant to review the pension plan.

They showed what’s possible when workers speak up together and bargain with real power. So can you.

Ask them to sign a confidential Unifor card so we can get to the bargaining table too.
