As you know,  a few months ago, over 800 workers at your sister company, F&P Manufacturing, in Tottenham, joined Unifor. They have started the process of negotiating improved wages and workplace improvements.

Will you join them in fighting for better improvements?

Unifor is Canada’s predominant autoworkers union, representing over 41,000 auto workers in auto assembly, powertrain operations and auto parts.

The past few days have been exciting as DYNA-MIG workers have been talking about the long-lasting benefits of joining Unifor. A collective Agreement will bring stability and predictability to your job.

With Unifor by your side, you will have skilled negotiators who can negotiate wage increases and workplace improvements for years to come. High labour demand and worker shortages coupled with the fast pace of inflation have seen workers stand up to employers to demand their fair share. This is one of the biggest attractions of collective bargaining that you will enjoy as members of Unifor.

Unionized vehicle Assembly

In our #2023AutoTalks auto bargaining , the first up was Ford Motor Company for pattern bargaining. This round of talks would set the pattern for Stellantis and General Motors.

Unifor achieved a 20% wage increase for production workers employed at the Detroit 3. General wage increases in each year of the agreement with 10% in year one, 2% in year two and 3% in year three. Skilled trades workers will see a 25% wage increase.

Unionized tier-one Suppliers

Unifor members at Magna ratified a new collective agreement. These workers are a tier-one supplier of seating products for the Chrysler Pacifica at the Stellantis Windsor Assembly Plant and foam seating parts for the Ford Bronco and Ranger at facilities in the United States.

The ratified 3.5-year contract includes wage increases of 15% over the life of the agreement, with workers receiving an immediate 7% increase followed by increases of 3% in 2024, 3% in 2025 and 2% in 2026. Skilled Trades members will receive a one-time special wage adjustment over and above the general wage increase of $1.95 per hour. The agreement also includes a $5,000 productivity and quality bonus and three $1,000 inflation protection payments beginning in 2024.

Non-union vehicle assembly and tier-one suppliers

In response to the wage gains achieved by unionized workers, Toyota and Honda have offered their workers some wage increases and workplace improvements, but as we see time and time again, they give workers less than they could have achieved with collective bargaining. Non-union workers fall short of receiving all of the gains and workplace improvements covered by a collective agreement.

Make a real change with Unifor

With DYNA-MIG taking fundamental steps to join the union and gain the legal right to collective bargaining with their employer, DYNA-MIG will likely offer some improvements to your wages. Remember, without having your voice in negotiations, you will only ever achieve what the employer is willing to offer.

You deserve to have an equal voice with your employer to negotiate fairness. If you haven’t talked with your coworkers about the Unifor Advantage yet, I encourage you to share this email with them. Workers do better with a union.
