We’re Close—Let’s Take the Lead and Win at GFX

The campaign to unionize your workplace continues to build momentum—but we still need more signed membership cards to reach the 50% +1 threshold to apply to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB).

During my visit to the workplace on August 13, I had the chance to speak with some of you. If we didn’t get a chance to connect, I want you to know: we are very close to making this a reality—but we need strong voices from every shift to step forward now.

We Need Leaders to Step Up

We’re asking for a few workers on each shift to stand up, stand out, and take ownership of this campaign. That means:

  • Speaking with your co-workers

  • Encouraging them to sign their Unifor membership card

  • Sharing the link and helping build momentum in your area

These small actions help grow connections and build a powerful movement—one conversation at a time.

You Have the Legal Right to Organize

In Ontario, you and your co-workers have a legal right to form a union. Your employer is not allowed to interfere with that process or retaliate against you in any way for supporting a union.

If they do, Unifor is here to help. We have trained representatives and a strong legal department ready to protect your right to organize—you are not alone in this.

Watch Out for Employer Tactics

As we get closer to our goal, management may try to discourage you. You might hear things like:

  • “A union will only create division.”

  • “We’ll fix things ourselves—just give us time.”

  • “Union dues cost too much.”

Here are the facts:

  • Unions bring workers together to speak with one voice, not divide them.

  • Without a union, promises can be broken at any time. With a union, improvements are legally enforceable.

  • Dues are 100% tax deductible and represent a small investment for significantly better wages, benefits, and job protection.

Let’s Finish This—Together

Now is the time to lean in and finish what we’ve started. Talk to your co-workers. Build those partnerships. Help get the cards signed.
